Everything you need to know.

A first portrait prime should be light enough to carry everywhere, and at just 116 g this black lens is exactly that. This 45mm f/1.8 frames like a 90mm lens on full frame, the classic head-and-shoulders focal length, and its bright aperture separates subjects from busy backgrounds with soft, pleasing blur. Shooting indoors or after sunset is easier too, since f/1.8 gathers far more light than a kit zoom.

Optically, the lens uses 9 elements in 8 groups, including two E-HR (extra-high refractive) elements, for sharp, high-contrast results at wide apertures. A 7-blade circular diaphragm keeps out-of-focus highlights rounded, while multi-coating helps maintain clarity and contrast against bright light sources. The result is portrait rendering with a clear, three-dimensional look, whether you are shooting family moments, headshots or detail-rich still life on a tabletop.

MSC high-speed autofocus and an inner-focus screw-drive mechanism deliver quick, quiet focusing for both stills and video. Weighing only 116 g with a slim 37mm filter size and 0.5 m minimum focus distance, this black version pairs neatly with any Micro Four Thirds body, from compact PEN models to OM-D and OM SYSTEM cameras. It is one of the easiest upgrades a kit-lens shooter can make.
